• What lead you to write?

My mom really instilled reading in me and my sister when we were young. I think that influence was what lead me to want to write and tell my own stories.

• What is your preferred genre to write?

I’ve always enjoyed reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy so that’s what I’ve mostly written. However, I do have a few ideas for more thriller type stories that I’m hoping to one day write.

• What are your favorite activities or hobbies outside of work/writing?

My wife and I enjoy a lot of outdoor and more active hobbies. Recently we have gotten into rock climbing and we are really enjoying that. I also enjoy getting on the motorcycle and riding around when the weather is nice.

• What is one major struggle you have with writing?

Sticking to one story. I have so many ideas and so much that I want to write but if I didn’t limit myself I would never complete anything.

• What has been one of your strongest inspirations for a story?

Dreams, I get a lot of ideas and inspirations from them. Sometimes it’s the original idea for a story and sometimes its something within the stories I’m writing. For example the opening scene for From Men and Angels was a dream that I had that I adapted to the story.

• Do you place any of your life experiences into your stories?

Is there any other way to write? I mean, of course there are somethings that you can’t experience that gets written into the story but you have to have some experience to really know how to write certain things. Like Malach, my main character in my debut novel, he is a hunter, he enjoys being in the woods and surviving off the land and animals. I did quite a bit of that in my youth. There are a few things that I have experienced recently that I’m sure will end up in future books. 

• What part of your writing is the most complimented?

So far, the world building has been praised the most which is a huge relief to me. I did a lot of work building and rewriting the world building elements over and over until it was right. I can’t take all the credit though, my editor did a lot to help me with this.

• What is your favorite show/movie?

Wow, there are a lot of good TV shows and movies that I really enjoy. I think one of my favorites was a TV show and the movie that didn’t get enough hype while it was on air. Firefly and Serenity. I really wish someone would bring that back, however, I’m not sure it would be the same if they did.
