Genevive Chamblee

  • What lead you to write?

I’m a southerner. Storytelling is in my blood.

  • Was there a particular person that influenced you to pursue writing?

There are so many, but the person who stands out is a college creative writing professor. I was a graduate student and had taken CW as a diversion from my major courses. He stated that I should be publishing.

  • What is your preferred genre to write?

Romance

  • What is your favorite genre to read?

I’m diverse. If it catches my attention, I’m going to read it. I don’t care what genre; although, I do tend to shy away from horror.

  • What are your favorite activities or hobbies outside of work/writing?

Without a doubt SEC Sports. Don’t bother me during football season. 😊

  • Who is your favorite author and what do you enjoy about their writing style?

Jane Austen. She’s classic, romantic, and to the point.

  • What is one major struggle you have with writing?

Word count. I rarely come in on target without tons of editing. Usually, I overwrite.

  • Out of all of your stories, which one did you most enjoy writing?

All of them for different reasons. Each presents a different challenge and attempts something new. Oasis Haze has been my most daring publication. But I have WIPs that go much further.

  • What projects are you currently working on?

I have a sports romance in the works for release. A date has not been set, but it’s at the publishers. I have a book involving the occult in the wings, and a medical romance awaiting editing.

  • What has been one of your strongest inspirations for a story?

Culture. I’m a bayou baby, and there’s so much to pull from this area.

  • Do you place any of your life experiences into your stories?

Sometimes but they are so diluted they rarely are similar.

  • If your story could be made into a play or movie, what actor/actress do you think would be the perfect fit to play your mc?

In my upcoming sports romance, I think Alex Pettyfer would make an excellent lead.

  • If you had enough money to travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

London. If not London, Paris. But honestly, when it came time to buying the tickets, I’d probably go to Disney World in Orlando.

  • What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Be strong.

  • What is your dream car?

I’m not into cars. As long as it has a motor, good on gas, a decent size trunk, and not in the shop, I don’t care. If I had to buy a treat-myself, it may be a BMW SUV because I’ve heard they are good vehicles.

  • What part of your writing is the most complimented?

My author’s voice. My style is very distinctive.

  • What part of your writing, do you feel, needs strengthening?

I’d like to write a pure fantasy, but I’m still learning the ins and outs of that genre.

  • What is your favorite mixed drink?

Mixed? Pff! It’s straight shots. But if I’m pressed for an answer, I’d say a Suicide.

  • What is one of your most cherished items in your writing space?

My color pens. I used them for editing my paper printouts and noting on my At-A-Glance.

  • What is one thing in anything you’ve read that stood out to you? (Could be meaning or even just sentence structure.)

“This above all: to thine own self be true. And it must follow, as the night the day. Thou canst not then be false to any man.”

  • What advice would you give to someone trying to start building their platform and market their work?

Research. There’s a lot of good information available, but you have to sort through it to find what works for you.

  • What is your favorite food?

Muffaletta

  • What is your favorite show/movie?

The Thomas Crown Affair (the remake) and A Beautiful Mind
